Wizard Weekend A Success
Date of Event: 20/07/2007 - 22/07/2007
Fans of Harry Potter had a weekend of magical fun and wizardry on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July at Almondvale Shopping Centre, Livingston.
The centre’s “Wizard Weekend” in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, consisted of a variety of events including storytelling inside a special “yurt” - a rounded tepee positioned at the centre of the mall and an outdoor owl display next to the crèche area.
In addition, over 160 children and their families came along to the midnight opening on Friday 20th July when W H Smith opened from 11pm - 2am to coincide with the launch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
A fancy dress competition took place at 12.45am with a first prize of £50 for the best costume, whilst wizardly magicians entertained the queues with spectacular tricks. There was also a range of goodies to giveaway on the night.
Almondvale Shopping Centre marketing manager, Jennifer Bruce, said: “Our Wizard Weekend was a great hit with children and adults of all ages and there was a great response to our special first ever midnight opening on Friday 20th July.
“This event is the fourth in a series of activities planned at Almondvale throughout the year. They’re not only great fun for visitors but raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.”
