Woman in Construction
Date of Event: 11/10/2007 - 12/10/2007

Miller Construction is working on the new 370,000 sq ft shopping centre, The Elements, which opens for trade in October 2008.
Miller Construction joined forces with Almondvale Shopping Centre to host a “Women in Construction” event as part of both companies commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and in a bid to raise awareness of opportunities available in the industry.
The evening was a resounding success with female representatives from Miller Construction, Grainger’s, West Lothian College, Jobcentre Plus, and Construction Skills (the Sector Skills Council for construction) on-hand to give careers advice and answer questions from shoppers.
Around 130 women dropped by to find out more and many were surprised to hear about the diverse range of careers available to them. Questions covered everything from modern-day apprenticeships, CSC industry cards and construction courses to child-care grants.
Since the event, there has been a significant increase in the number of career-related enquiries from the West Lothian area. Miller is now helping several women to enter the construction industry, with one potential female bricklayer and another pursuing a joinery apprenticeship.
