Thousands of fans turn out to see king of X Factor
Date of Event: 19/12/2007 - 19/12/2007
Over 12,500 fans turned out on Wednesday 19th December to see their local hero and winner of X Factor 2007, Leon Jackson, perform and sign copies of his first single ‘When You Believe’ at Almondvale Shopping Centre, Livingston.
The young Scottish singing talent, who shot to fame via the ITV hit show The X Factor, beat off hundreds of hopefuls throughout the competition including Welsh favourite Rhydian Roberts in a head-to-head showdown on Saturday 15th December.
A limited number of dedicated followers of the Whitburn wonder, with some camping outside the centre overnight, managed to get their hands on one of the wristbands early this morning which enabled them entry to the exclusive signing session at 6pm. These lucky fans then got the opportunity to meet with the star, pose for pictures and get a signed copy of his first-ever single which was released today.
Later, excited shoppers and fans enjoyed a live performance from the local lad, which ended in rapturous applause making his aim to take the Christmas No1 spot in the singles charts ever more possible.
Jennifer Bruce, marketing manager at Almondvale Shopping Centre said: “Tonight has been a fantastic evening with an unforgettable performance from Leon. Over 12,500 people from West Lothian and further afield turned out to help celebrate Leon’s success. The atmosphere in the centre was electric and I’m sure Leon was both overwhelmed and thrilled by the support
“I’d like to say thanks to all involved in helping make tonight a success, including SYCO, HMV, Lothian and Borders Police, Security Teams and retailers. I’m delighted that our local star decided to promote his first single at Almondvale Shopping Centre and would love to welcome him back in the near future.”
