Livingston sets a new Face Painting World Record
Date: 3 Sep 2007
Celebrations were in full swing on Saturday 1st September as children from across Scotland helped break a Guinness World Record TM in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Gary Cole from Dallas, Texas broke the previous world record of 113 faces painted in one hour at Almondvale Shopping Centre, by decorating the faces of 217 willing volunteers.
Gary battled it out against the current world record holder, Rosie Jones from Telford to win the accolade and received a Guinness World Record certificate and champagne, presented by official adjudicator, Jane Boatfield.
Record breaker, Gary said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have broken the world record of 113 faces and would like to congratulate Rosie for such a great attempt.
“The children and adults were all fantastic and they should be very proud of themselves for playing such an important part in this record. It was certainly a great way to have fun and raise money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.”
Supported by international award-winning Cool Faces Face and Body Art, the world record attempt formed part of a two-day Festival of Face Painting which will help raise essential funds for Marie Curie.
The hundreds of children who took part in the event received a special badge in recognition of their achievement and have been invited back to the mall tomorrow to enjoy quality face painting by some of the best artists in the world.
Almondvale Shopping Centre marketing manager, Jennifer Bruce, said: “The day was a great success and I am delighted that Almondvale Shopping Centre played host to the breaking of this world record. Most importantly, we raised much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care to help them continue their great work helping cancer patients across the UK.”
Livingston’s Festival of Face Painting continues on Sunday 2 September from 11am - 4pm at Almondvale Shopping Centre with face painting, balloon modelling, stilt-walkers, jugglers and magicians.
Sponsored by Grimas.
